Police charge woman with Peace River arson

A woman is in jail in Peace River after police in the northern Alberta town charged her with arson.

RCMP in Peace River said Sunday in a media release they have charged the 36-year-old resident of the town 385 kilometres northwest of Edmonton with one count of arson, two of disturbing the peace and two of mischief.

Police said they along with Peace River firefighters and paramedics went to the location of the fire at 94 Avenue and 98 Street, where the ground level of a youth centre was burning.

They said that before the fire had been discovered that they received a report at 3:45 p.m. of a woman screaming and hitting vehicles, and another report of a woman screaming and throwing rocks at vehicles. Police said both incidents involving a woman were 100-200 metres from the fire location.

Police said they arrested and charged the 36-year-old less than an hour later. She is slated to appear in a Peace River court on Monday.
