A single traffic stop late last month by police in west-central Alberta produced 45 criminal charges against two people and the seizure of several firearms-and-drug-related items. RCMP in Hinton pulled over a vehicle on July 26 after officers established criminal grounds for a stop and arrested the two people in it. After a judicially authorized search of the vehicle, police found several prohibited weapons, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and firearms magazines, body armour, 106 grams of suspected cocaine, items consistent with drug trafficking and electronic devices relevant to the investigation. Police charged a 39-year-old man from Grande Prairie with 27 offences and a 39-year-old woman from Edmonton with 18 in relation to the findings, including possession of stolen property, prohibited weapons and controlled substances with the purpose of trafficking, carrying concealed weapons and other firearms-related offences. The two are in police custody and are scheduled to appear in a Hinton court on Wednesday. The Town of Hinton is 270 kilometres west of Edmonton.
