Northeast Edmontonians flee home on fire

The occupants of a northeast Edmonton residence fled their home early Thursday morning because of a fire.

The blaze at 11823 60 St. was first reported shortly before 9 p.m.

It was declared out an hour later, but rekindled sometime before 1:45 a.m. when firefighters were called back.

They declared the fire out for a second time at 8 a.m. Thursday.

An Edmonton Fire Rescue Services spokesperson did not know how many people escaped on their own, but confirmed none needed medical attention by EMS.

The cause and damage estimate is not yet known.

Firefighters were also called to west Edmonton early Thursday morning for a fire at a former hotel along Stony Plain Road.
