Couple sues wedding planner

Two couples are suing wedding planner Loveneet Tobin, the woman behind the now-defunct Simply Perfect Events, saying they are owed thousands of dollars.

“I don’t want people’s wedding day to turn out like mine,” newlywed Sam Machado told CTV News Edmonton. “I spent two hours at my head table bawling my eyes out.”

Edmonton’s most expensive homes for sale

Edmonton’s most expensive residential properties in February were listed for millions and boast features like rooftop terraces, a mini indoor hockey rink, and river valley access.

New legislation to affect classrooms

The Alberta government says it is attempting to remove politics and ideology from classrooms with a new piece of legislation that will require unbiased teaching, but which it says will enable students to express their views freely.

The Alberta Teachers’ Association says it is unnecessary because of the standards teachers are held to. A former teacher called it “professional censorship.”

The Official Opposition says the bill is about “restricting freedom of speech.”

Playoffs draw nearer

The Edmonton Oilers head coach is weighing in on the Golden Knights replacing coach Bruce Cassidy with John Tortorella with eight regular season games left. Edmonton played Chicago Thursday and faces off against Vegas on Saturday.

Separatism debate continues to boil

The United Conservative Party’s Jason Sephan is encouraging Albertans to sign a petition calling for a referendum on the province separating from Canada, putting Premier Danielle Smith and her government on the defensive.

The petition’s organizers say they have collected the required number of signatures. This will be verified by election officials in May after the deadline closes.
