Network, system outages hamper St. Albert civic work

System and network outages are plaguing various departments and locales of the City of St. Albert on Tuesday.

In a media release, the city said several of its network connections went offline Tuesday morning because of a disruption to its fibre-optic network. Phone landlines are not working but 9-1-1 service is, the city said, adding that emergency dispatches are being done over radio.

According to the release, St. Albert’s online booking system is also down, which affects appointments by safety inspectors. The city said once the network is back online, its planning and development office will contact people whose appointments were affected to reschedule them.

The outages also affect facilities such as Servus Credit Union Place, where staff are taking cash because they can’t process credit payments and are tracking membership use manually.
