The Edmonton Police Service fatally shot a man inside his home last month after he advanced on them while carrying what appeared to be weapons, Alberta’s police watchdog says. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating the shooting on June 26. The agency says police got multiple reports of crashes involving a man driving a black Jeep in south Edmonton, including a crash with an Edmonton Fire Rescue Services truck, shortly before midnight. Witnesses said the man had a weapon. The vehicle was located shortly afterwards in an open garage in the Cavanagh neighbourhood. According to ASIRT, EPS got a warrant for the home and were met by the man when they went inside. During the confrontation that ensued, an EPS officer fired his service pistol, striking the man, who died on scene. Anyone who was in the area of Christie Vista S.W. in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 27, 2026, or who may have video recordings of the shooting incident is asked to contact ASIRT at 780-644-1483.
