The 2025 Alberta Cancer Foundation Lottery, with more than 1,000 prizes worth $3.6 million, launched Tuesday. The annual contest, formerly called the Cash and Cars Lottery, supports cancer programs across the province, from patient financial assistance, clinical trials and enhanced care. “I feel like, if I didn’t have the team I had at the University of Alberta Hospital and Cross Cancer Institute, I wouldn’t have come out of it as strong as I am today,” said 29-year-old survivor Tyra Langille in an interview with CTV News Edmonton. Langille was diagnosed with stage three oral cancer in 2021 and has been in remission for three years. According to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, 60 Albertans every day receive a cancer diagnosis. Of her advocacy of the lottery, Langille said it was important to give back to the community that helped her. “It’s a win-win. Either you win a lovely house and you win a bunch of money, or you get to donate some money towards the foundation of Albert Cancer Foundation.” The grand prize winner will have three options: a $2.8-million 288-square metre villa in Calgary’s West District area, $2.25 million in cash, or their choice of a custom $1.25-million Edmonton plus $1.25 million in cash. Other prizes include a 2024 Airstream Caravel trailer, 2025 BMW M4 Convertible, 100 days of cash prizes totalling $460,000, and a 50/50 draw. “You’ve likely got somebody going through a cancer journey at the moment and that can feel like a really powerless sort of experience. But I think what you can do is, through a purchase of a ticket like this, show your support, show your hope and your optimism for the future of cancer,” said the foundation’s vice-president of communications, Ryan Kelly.
