Leduc RCMP investigating fatal highway crash

Emergency crews and RCMP were on the scene of a fatal collision involving a semi-truck and a small car on Hwy 21 at Hwy 625 Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Police south of Edmonton are investigating a fatal collision involving a semi-truck and a small car late Tuesday afternoon.

RCMP said Tuesday that officers and emergency crews were called to the scene of the crash on Highway 21 and Highway 625 just after 11 a.m. Tuesday.

It’s believed a semi-truck with a trailer was heading north on Highway 21, when the car crossed the intersection with Highway 625, going eastbound – the truck driver couldn’t stop, and struck the smaller car.

The small car was dragged into the ditch by the truck.

The driver of the truck was not hurt in the collision, but police confirmed the driver of the car had died.

However, police also said it’s not clear if there was only one victim, as the car was wedged under the semi-truck in such a way that the passenger and back seats of the car weren’t accessible to crews.

Tuesday's crash was the third collision on that highway in a week.
