‘Kids helping kids’: Lemonade Stand Day raises more than $500K for Stollery Hospital

This year's Lemonade Stand Day raised $533,000 for the Stollery Children's Hospital to buy bedside caregiver cots so parents can stay by their child's side.

The 12th annual Lemonade Stand Day has raised $533,644.56 in support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

A news release said more than 650 stands and 2,450 youth across Edmonton participated in the initiative on Aug. 24 for Canada’s largest one-day lemonade stand.

Lemonade Stand Day began in 2014 with just 30 stands. Since then, the event has raised more than $3 million.

“Every year we are blown away by the energy and generosity of our Junior Lemon Squeezers and the entire community,” said founder Monita Chapman in a statement Sunday afternoon. “This is truly about kids helping kids, and together we’re making life a little brighter for Stollery kids and their families.”

This year’s proceeds will help purchase bedside caregiver cots for the Stollery, allowing parents to get some rest while by their child’s side.
