Child dies falling from roof of Edmonton building: police

Edmonton Police Service says a child fell to their death on Wednesday near 121 Street and 101 Avenue. An investigation is underway.

A child died after falling from the roof of an Edmonton building earlier this week, the Edmonton Police Service has confirmed.

An EPS spokesperson confirmed Saturday that the child fell from a rooftop in the area of 121 Street and 101 Avenue on July 2.

Hazelview Properties confirmed the building was its high-rise apartment building, The Pinnacle.

“We are heartbroken to confirm that a tragic incident occurred at The Pinnacle,” spokesperson Atiya Khan said in a statement. “Our deepest and most heartfelt condolences go out to the child’s family and loved ones during this unimaginable time.”

Khan said the company would be providing counselling service to all residents for free and cooperating with the police investigation.

“At this stage, we have no indication to believe that the incident was caused by any structural issue or defect with the building. All balconies at the property meet the safety requirements set out in the building code.”
