The achievements of 17 youths were celebrated on Friday after they completed five days of training with RCMP as part of the Soaring Eagles Indigenous Youth Camp. The camp was created to give teens aged 16-19 a realistic introduction to RCMP training and policing careers. From Monday to Friday of this week the cadets took part in fitness training, drill instruction, and interactive sessions with specialized RCMP units, including Major Crime, Emergency Response, and Forensic Identification Services. “While this camp serves as a recruiting tool for our organization, it is so much more than that,” Chief Superintendent Gary Graham said in a news release. “We recognize that youth are the future and the way forward for our province, especially those living in our rural and Indigenous communities.” Indigenous leaders along with representatives from the Alberta government, RCMP employees, and family and friends of the cadets were on hand on Friday to celebrate the graduation.
