Icy highway caused fatal crash northeast of Edmonton: RCMP

One person is dead after a three-vehicle crash in Thorhild County over the weekend.

Police say a SUV was driving northbound on Highway 63 near Range Road 623A when it hit a patch of ice and slid into the back of a southbound semi, and then spun into a southbound sedan.

The 58-year-old driver of the sedan, a Rich Valley, Alta. resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four people in the SUV were taken to hospital for evaluation, and the driver of the semi was not injured.
