Injury vs. Predators knocks Henrique out of Oilers lineup until late February

The ongoing additions to the Edmonton Oilers’ injured list continued Tuesday night when centre Adam Henrique left early in their win over the Nashville Predators.

The 35-year-old bottom-six pivot and penalty-killer didn’t play after an early first-period shift in which he blocked a shot by Nashville’s Filip Forsberg.

Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch said after the 6-2 Edmonton victory that he expects Henrique will be out of the lineup “for a little while.”

The team formally put him on injured reserve late Wednesday afternoon, adding he’s expected to return to the lineup in late February after the Winter Olympics.

Henrique has played in all 43 Oilers games so far this season, scoring two goals and eight assists for 10 points.

He joins goalie Tristan Jarry and defenceman Jake Walman on the team’s injured list. Winger Kasperi Kapanen came off injured reserve on Tuesday against the Predators after more than two months out of action and scored a goal in his return.

Henrique’s absence led to coaches sliding Matt Savoie up onto the line, with Jack Roslovic taking over centre duties and Ike Howard on the other wing.

Knoblauch said he was impressed with what he saw from the combo and will look at keeping the line together for the Oilers’ next game, Thursday in Winnipeg against the Jets.

“Those three were good,” he told media. “We’ll most likely keep those three together and see what they can build.”
