Fire still burning at garbage dump west of Edmonton

A fire at a garbage dump west of Edmonton was still burning Tuesday.

Smoke and flames were visible at GFL Waste Management’s dump off 231 Street NW, east of Acheson.

Officials have not responded to CTV News Edmonton’s requests for more information about the blaze.

According to Parkland County, the fire was 3.5 hectares in size as of midnight Sunday, when county crews left the site and GFL in charge of the fire.

The county said the fire was located in a section of the site containing construction and demolition waste, and that the company was working to put it out with heavy equipment and soil.
