Edmonton weather: Warm and smoky today, with showers coming tomorrow

According to CTV Edmonton's Cory Edel's forecast, it'll be very smoky today but less so tomorrow.

An air quality warning went into effect for the Edmonton region Tuesday evening and it will likely remain in place throughout today.

We’re expecting some improvement in air quality as the day goes on. But, we’ll probably stay in the high risk range for much of the day, possibly dropping to a moderate risk later this afternoon and evening.

The Environment and Climate Change Canada air quality is reading 10+ (very high risk) this morning, however the Alberta AQHI is reading 6-9 across the Edmonton region.

Bottom line: There will be wildfire smoke in the area throughout the day, to varying degrees and with an expected improvement as the day goes on.

Tomorrow’s smoke forecast is a little more uncertain due to the chance of rain.

We have a system moving into southwest Alberta tonight with some showers and a risk of thunderstorms for that area.

The precipitation will drive north into the Edmonton region by Thursday morning and although there’s some uncertainty with how much precipitation we’ll actually get in the city, expect showers and possibly some periods of rain in the area through the day Thursday.

More showers are likely for Friday, with a risk of some thunderstorms developing in the evening.

Temperatures will climb into the low 20s again today. However, we’ll see daytime highs slip into the mid to upper teens for Thursday-Saturday in the city.
