Edmonton weather: Mild spell set to end as snow risk looms

As Cory Edel reports, the week in Edmonton will start warm, but see snow soon enough.

We made it through October without any snow in Edmonton. But, we may not make it out of the first week of November without snow.

Mild (at least, for this time of year) temperatures will continue today/Tuesday/Wednesday. And THEN the “fun” begins.

The long-term average high for early November is 5 C and that falls to just 2 C by the end of the first week of November.

We’ll be in the 6 to 9 C range for highs today/Tuesday/Wednesday in Edmonton and then just slightly above 0 C for Thursday/Friday.

Edmonton’s on the northern edge of some clouds this morning and it looks like we’ll see some of that cloud cover push in this afternoon and then clear out overnight.

Sunny and light wind for Tuesday.

Morning temperatures will slip a handful of degrees below 0 C Tuesday/Wednesday.

An area of low pressure develops over the province on Wednesday and while there’s some uncertainty with exactly where the band of precipitation (and the type of precipitation) will form, I think it’s fairly likely that we’ll see some of that precipitation late Wednesday into early Thursday in the Edmonton region.

At this point, it looks like it’ll start out as showers and then flip over to mixed precipitation or full-on snow overnight and through early Thursday morning.

It’s a little early to be talking about accumulation totals, but I do think it’s possible that we wake up with at least SOME snow on the ground Thursday morning.

There’s also a chance of some showers or snow Friday evening, although that system looks to have less potential for accumulating snow.

Looking LONG range: If the snow avoids the Edmonton area (or if it’s just a small amount), we should be in line for a brief warmup early next week with daytime highs back in the 6 to 11 C range.
