Edmonton to lift residential parking ban Friday night

The first residential parking ban of 2026 is coming to an end, but it wasn't a smooth ride for drivers or the city. CTV News Edmonton's Evan Kenny has the lates

The City of Edmonton is lifting its residential parking ban Friday night.

In a morning media release, the city said it will end the Phase 2 ban at 7 p.m. after 11 days.

It issued the ban to clear Edmonton’s 3,800 kilometres of residential roads after historic amounts of snow fell on the city in December and into January.

Crews continue to work clearing snow from other sections of road in the city, such as school zones and cul-de-sacs and alleys.

City workers started clearing snow from cul-de-sacs on Thursday, with the city saying it expects they will be busy with such efforts for the next six weeks daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Work to clear snow from school zones started a week ago and is expected to be finished by Feb. 2.

As of Tuesday, parking enforcement officers have issued 3,402 tickets and 176 warnings to vehicle owners disobeying the ban.
