The Edmonton Riverhawks have unveiled a new logo that honours Treaty 6 territory ahead of the upcoming season. The image was designed by Conrad Plews, a local Métis artist of Cree background that owns several tattoo shops in the city. In an article on the team’s website, Plews said he wanted to incorporate elements reflective of Indigenous art and culture while maintaining the team’s identity. The West Coast League baseball team will sport the logo on limited-edition jerseys the players will wear at the Riverhawks home opener Friday, May 29th. Those jerseys will then be auctioned off online, with proceeds going to the Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society. The team also says, throughout the season, 20 per cent of merchandise sales featuring the logo will be donated to the organization. The team says people can buy the gear on their website and in-store at the Hawk Shop during home games.
