Edmonton man who killed his father sentenced to 2 years

An Edmonton man will spend two years in jail for killing his father.

Shawn Lawrence Dion pleaded guilty to manslaughter late last month.

Police were called to the home where Dion’s parents lived on March 11, 2024, after receiving a call that both his father and mother had been assaulted.

His father was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Dion also pleaded guilty to assaulting his mother and received a six-month sentence.

It’s not clear if the sentences will be served consecutively or concurrently.

He will serve three years of probation after his release and a 10-year firearms prohibition was also imposed at sentencing.
