‘Blessing in the darkness’: Edmonton-born comedian returns with new show

Comedy legend Bruce McCulloch is returning home to Edmonton for a show on Friday.

Edmonton native and Canadian comedy icon Bruce McCulloch is back home Friday night with a new show he hopes will resonate with people on more than one level.

The founding member of comedy troupe “Kids in the Hall” has brought his signature gallows humour to his new tour, “Dark Purple Slice.”

“It’s funny as heck. It’s some music, it’s some storytelling, it’s some stand-up, and it’s a little bit touching,” he told CTV Your Morning Edmonton this week.

In the 12 cross-Canada shows he’s already performed, he said he’s gotten notes from audiences who have resonated with the show’s darkly comedic approach to an underlying message of being “all in this together.”

“Sometimes in the dark times, humour is all you got .. it’s kind of (like) finding the blessing in the darkness.”

Friday’s show in Edmonton will be held at the Myer Horowitz theatre at 8 p.m. Tickets are still available online.
