Ben’s Meats and Deli opens in new location in west Edmonton

Longtime Edmonton business Ben's Meats and Deli has a new home in west Edmonton.

Ben’s Meats and Deli, a staple of the Jasper Place area in west Edmonton for more than 71 years, is open at a new, bigger location.

The Dutch import store and deli first opened in October of 1953 when Jasper Place was its own separate town.

Earlier in the year, the Jasper Place staple announced it was moving to a new location in the neighbourhood.

The new building offers several upgrades, including a larger space and more equipment, more parking, better access and room for a new gluten-free cafe.

The new location opened for business on Monday, with the owner, Dave van Leeuwen, saying it’s been a “fantastic” first day.

“(We’ve had) great feedback from people coming out, they’re all excited,” van Leeuwen said.

“We’re hearing from a lot of people, even if they’re coming from a distance, that it’s a lot easier to get into. Parking was a big issue at the old location, so we’ve already noticed this morning that it’s been really good, and the businesses around here, especially on our busiest day on Saturdays, they’re all closed, so we’ll have the whole parking lot for Ben’s Meats.”

The new Ben’s Meats and Deli is located at 10516 184 St.
