Sunnier days are ahead in Edmonton, and this long weekend is hopping with Easter and spring-themed activities for the family. Here’s what’s happening in and around the city from Friday to Sunday. Family fun at recreation centres You’re bound to find something to do at one of Edmonton’s 21 recreation facilities. Both the Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre and the Mill Woods Recreation Centre wave pool will be open during regular operating hours. Eastglen Leisure Centre will host a $2 public swim on Saturday and Sunday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Coronation Park will also have an Easter Sunday public swim from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring an inflatable obstacle course and multi-sport activities for all ages. Edmonton Valley Zoo The city’s zoo has introduced its spring hours and will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This long weekend until April 6 is Zoo in Bloom, where families are invited to watch the animals get special spring enrichment and learn about pollinators. Muttart Conservatory The Muttart’s Floral Awakening feature exhibit is in full bloom this long weekend. An Easter event on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. will feature fuzzy friends, crafts, scavenger hunts, face painting and more. General admission is the cost to attend. The Indigenous Peoples Experience at Fort Edmonton Park Spring is a time of renewal across many Indigenous cultures as they observe April’s Frog Moon to mark the beginning of renewal and new life. Fort Edmonton Park is hosting the Indigenous Peoples Experience, an indoor and outdoor exhibit, from noon to 4 p.m. this long weekend to learn from cultural interpreters. Egg hunts galore On Saturday, West Meadows Baptist Church will host an Easter Eggstravaganza complete with carnival games, face painting, 15,000 eggs and photos with the Easter Bunny. There are a number of egg hunts at community leagues around the city. Griesbach Community League will host an Easter egg hunt at the Maple Leaf Pond on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Delton Community League’s hunt is on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Magrath Campus will also host an egg hunt from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. The John Walter Museum has free admission on Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring an Easter egg hunt, live music, crafts and games. Tickets are available here. Sherwood Park events There will be more than 100,000 chocolate Easter eggs to hunt at the Sherwood Park Emerald Hills Sports Pavilion on Saturday, as well as a petting zoo, inflatables, games, crafts and face-painting. The event is hosted by The Park Church, runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is completely free to attend. Sports card collectors may also want to head to Sherwood Park’s Millennium Place for a chance to grab an autograph from former Edmonton Oilers goalies Grant Fuhr and Curtis Joseph. The Sport Card Expo runs from Friday to Sunday. Tickets are available online.
