1 dead in apparent shooting on Highway 2; Mounties seeking witnesses

RCMP say a Highway 2 driver was killed on Saturday. A pickup truck was seen pulling up beside a Honda Civic, and a weapon was fired at the Civic.

RCMP are looking for witnesses to an apparent shooting that killed a driver on Highway 2 Saturday afternoon.

Mounties say a white or grey dirty pickup truck was seen pulling up beside a black 2012 Honda Civic on Highway 2 near Township Road 490 around 2:50 p.m.

The pickup truck was seen speeding off and the Civic pulled over to the side of the road.

“Investigation has revealed that a weapon was discharged towards the Honda Civic, resulting in the death of the driver,” said a news release from RCMP.

Highway 2 between Leduc and Township Road 490 was closed at 3:30 p.m. for the investigation. Up-to-date information can be found on the Alberta 511 website.

The major crimes unit is now looking for dashcam footage in that area around that time.
