Dozens of people have reached out with adoption offers after a story about an unlikely pair of best friends went viral earlier this week.

In a Facebook post, the Ontario SPCA made a plea to animal lovers who would be willing to adopt a horse and an alpaca who've become inseparable.

The agency is looking for a home for George, a male adult alpaca, and Lexi, a nine-year-old Belgian-Clydesdale mixed mare.

Both were rescued from a property somewhere in Ontario, the organization said. Officials have not said where the pair lived before being moved to a foster home in Newmarket, Ont. They had to be removed from their previous home based on a veterinarian's recommendations.

According to her handlers, Lexi is nervous and just beginning to trust humans, but George is always by her side.

"When in their stall he is constantly chatting with her," according to the Facebook post that went online Friday.

"Thank you to everyone for the overwhelming support for Lexi and George," a representative posted on the page on Wednesday.

Insp. Brad Dewar told CTV Toronto that, so far, the OSPCA had received 180 emails and 80 phone messages inquiring about the pair.

Inspectors are pouring over the submissions, and have lined up several interviews already, he said.

A message on Facebook said that the OSPCA is optimistic that the right home will be found for the four-legged friends. The organization is no longer taking new adoption requests.
