Youthlink Calgary celebrates 30 years with new name

Youthlink Calgary Police Interpretative Centre is being renamed to the Calgary Police Discovery Centre

Youthlink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre is launching a new name: the Calgary Police Discovery Centre.

For 30 years, it’s helped young people make safe choices and build stronger futures through innovative crime prevention education.

Since opening, more than half a million people have experienced the program.

“Like many cities across Canada, Calgary is facing increased complexity and crime and social challenges,” said Calgary Police Chief Katie McLellan, in a public address on Thursday.

“We’re seeing this in our neighbourhood and our schools and too often, in the lives of our youth,” she added.

The Calgary Police Discovery Centre will host a grand reopening on May 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The public is invited to attend. There will be interactive exhibits, family activities and police demonstrations.
