Organizers of Canada Day celebrations in Lethbridge say the wet weather is causing minor changes to the city’s Canada Day celebrations. Here’s a look at how plans have changed. Henderson Lake Park All scheduled activities planned at Henderson Lake Park will continue on Wednesday, but the opening ceremonies at 12 p.m. and main stage entertainment has been moved inside the Lethbridge Trade and Convention Centre. “The ground is so saturated,” said Sarah Burton, who is the chair of Canada Day activities in the city. “You just step in it and you kind of squish, so we don’t want heavy vehicles in there.” Other activities, like the youth market and military displays, will be hosted on the north concrete pad outside the facility’s front entrance instead of in the park. The food truck row along Exhibition Way South will continue as is, as will the kids’ zone in the northwest corner of Henderson Park. Those coming to Henderson Park are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for outdoor activities, along with bug spray. A firework display to cap off the celebrations is scheduled from Henderson Lake for 11 p.m. Galt Gardens The Interfaith Food Bank will continue its Canada Day Party in the Park at Galt Gardens. A charity breakfast will kick off activities at 9 a.m. and run until 4 p.m. “We have a lot of great local acts that will be performing for us,” said food bank executive director Danielle McIntyre. “To me, Canada Day is all about community. It’s an opportunity for us as an organization to showcase that we are here for the community, but we also get that outpouring of support from the community at the event as well.” An outdoor market, food trucks, teepee and Indigenous education activities and outdoor games are also planned. The annual Le Barons Car Club has moved its car show from Galt Gardens to Fifth Street South because of the wet conditions. Other events The Canada Day Park Run around Henderson Lake will begin at the Kinsmen Shelter at 9 a.m. Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens will host activities throughout the day from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Lethbridge Bulls will play their annual Canada Day double header against the Fort McMurray Giants at Spitz Stadium. Game 1 is set for 1:30 p.m., followed by Game 2 at 7:30 p.m. Those in attendance during the evening game will be able to take to the field following the action to watch the fireworks. Free transit Lethbridge Transit will offer free ridership all day Wednesday, with extended service on routes 3 green and 4 orange after the fireworks display.
