Surge stampede their way to Saddledome triumph over Montreal

The Calgary Surge defeated Montreal 107-91 Wednesday in a game played at the Saddledome.

Led by Even Gilyard’s 37 points, the Calgary Surge withstood a slow start to defeat the Montreal Alliance to a 107-91 victory Wednesday in front of close to 7,000 rowdy fans at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The first half was dominated by Alliance guard Tavian Dunn-Martin (TDM), who made five three-pointers that helped propel the Montreal squad to a 13-point halftime lead.

Dunn-Martin made his sixth three-pointer in the third, but was mostly relegated to the bench as Calgary climbed out of its hole with a 39-15 spurt, led by Gilyard’s 21 third-quarter points.

Montreal tried to come back in Target Time, pulling to within 10 points, but the Surge were able to maintain a solid lead until they hit the target score to seal the win.

Sean “Rugzy” Miller-Moore and Greg Brown III each added 23 points for the Surge.

TDM led the Alliance with 24 points in only 16:24 minutes of action. Kevin Osawe chipped in with 17.

Next up for the Surge is a road trip to Saskatoon, where they will take on the Rattlers next Tuesday night.

Next up for the Alliance is a Sunday game against the Vancouver Bandits.
