Support workers at Calgary public and Catholic schools may be the next to strike.

Support workers at Calgary public and Catholic schools could be the next to strike.

Strike votes begin Monday for over 1,100 Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) at Calgary schools.

It includes custodial staff, cleaners, plumbers and tradespeople.

Support staff in the Foothills School Division will also be voting.

The earliest a strike could happen is the week of Feb. 17.

The union said it’s trying to escalate job action until the Alberta government addresses low wages.

Education support workers in the Edmonton region and Fort McMurray are already on strike.
