Suspect in custody in Sundre, Alta., following shelter-in-place order

RCMP say a suspect was taken into custody on Friday after a shelter-in-place order was issued in the central Alberta town of Sundre.

The order was issued at 8:30 a.m., after Mounties received reports of a man with a firearm “wandering around the community.”

Residents were warned to stay in their homes and refrain from opening the door to anyone, local schools were locked down and school buses stopped operating.

The order was rescinded about an hour later.

Sundre is located approximately 115 kilometres north of Calgary.

According to the Alberta Regional Dashboard, the town had a population of 2,730 in 2024.
