Roughnecks chalk up first win of season in San Diego

The Calgary Roughnecks and San Diego Seals in action Saturday night.

The Calgary Roughnecks won their first match of the season Saturday, defeating the San Diego Seals 15-11.

The victory improved the Roughnecks record to 1-3.

Calgary jumped to a 4-1 lead early, getting goals from Noah Manning, Haiden Dickson, Harrison Matsuoka and Tyler Pace after the first quarter.

San Diego broke through in the second with three of their own, but the Roughnecks matched them goal for goal and went to the half leading 7-4.

The Seals came out strong in the third, cutting the lead to one goal before Tre Leclaire’s goal with a little over three minutes remaining in the third tied up the score at 7-7.

However, the Roughnecks bounced back, getting a second goal from Manning to take an 8-7 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Roughnecks rallied, outscoring San Diego 5-2.

That included goals from Tanner Cook, Brayden Mayes and Tyler Pace, solidifying the margin of victory.

Leading the way were Tanner Cook and Brayden Mayes, with three goals and six assists apiece.

Next up for Calgary is a Friday night clash with the Vancouver Warriors at the Saddledome.

The club will honour former Roughneck Dane Dobbie. The first 4,400 fans will receive a free mini replica banner.
