Two of Alberta’s most popular national parks are using an unconventional metric to showcase how busy their summer seasons were this year. On Wednesday, Banff National Park shared to its social media that the Banff Field Unit went through 15,000 rolls of toilet paper over the summer. The park says that measures out to be 4,500 kilometres, or the distance it takes to travel from Banff to New Brunswick’s Kouchibouguac National Park by car. Jasper National Park, by contrast, stocked over 12,000 jumbo rolls of toilet paper across the park’s restrooms. That measures 3,700 kilometres if unfurled, the park said on its own social media page, or the distance from Jasper to Toronto on the Trans-Canada Highway. Both parks say most roadside privies will remain open, although service levels might be reduced. They added access will be subject to weather conditions.
