The Ottawa Police Service has identified the victim of a fatal hit-and-run crash earlier this month as a Carleton University student. The crash on West Hunt Club Road near Merivale Road happened at approximately 6 a.m. on Oct. 2. A vehicle had collided with a motorcycle. The 21-year-old woman driving the motorcycle was killed. The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene, police said. In a video posted to social media, police said the woman was a biology student, working toward her dream of attending medical school, and had met the love of her life. Police did not name her but included a photo and a statement from her family. “We are devastated by the loss of our only child, who was our everything,” the statement, attributed to the victim’s parents, said. “Each day we wake up and have to live through her tragic and horrific death again. Each day we have to live in a world without our beautiful daughter.” Ottawa police say investigators determined the vehicle involved was a dark-coloured Ford Escape. The car sustained front-end damage, specifically on the right-side fog light area. Investigators are also looking to speak with a witness who was driving a red pickup truck near the collision site at the time of the incident. “To the driver who left the scene: it’s not too late to do the right thing,” said Const. Fern John-Simon in the two-minute video. “Seek legal advice and turn yourself in,” she said. Anyone in the area at the time of the collision, particularly the driver of the red pickup truck, or anyone who may have dash-camera or other video footage that could assist investigators, is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service Fatal Collision Investigation Unit at 613-236-1222, extension 2345. Thirty people have died on Ottawa’s roads so far this year, police have said, surpassing 2025’s total of 23 fatalities. Police Chief Eric Stubbs has urged drivers to slow down and pay attention while behind the wheel, especially as it is getting darker earlier.
