More warm weather for southern Alberta Wednesday with scattered showers and thunderstorms

Daytime highs will sit in the mid to high 20s again on Wednesday, with Thursday expected to be a degree or two warmer.

Pockets of rain and scattered thunderstorms developed around the capital region and along Alberta’s southern border overnight and still lingered early Wednesday.

These cells aligned with where cooler air was encountering that ridge of high pressure that is serving as the main weather maker for this area.

Rain is possible in Calgary today if that southern system continues to track from the southeast to northwest.

Isolated thunderstorms are also possible across central and southern Alberta but if they do form, they should remain non-severe in nature.

Wildfire smoke was still impacting portions of Alberta on Wednesday morning.

As of 8 a.m., the air quality health index in Calgary was a 2, or low risk but was expected to reach a 5, or moderate risk later in the day.

The next significant chance of rain in Calgary will come at the end of the weekend and early next week but accumulations should be minimal.

Both the daily highs and lows will remain above seasonal for at least the next week.

The average range this time of year includes highs of 18 C and lows of 5 C.
