The band is back together--at least when it comes to the Calgary Flames’ radio broadcasting team. The team’s new broadcast partner QR77 announced that Meagan Mikkelson will be returning as the analyst alongside play-by-play man Derek Wills and pre-and-post game show host Pat Steinberg for the upcoming season. Mikkelson weighed in on social media, reposting the announcement on her X feed. “We BACK,” she said. “I have had a lot of teammates over the course of my career and these two are two of the absolute best. Couldn’t be more excited.” Mikkelson joined the broadcasting team in 2023 after a notable hockey career that included three Olympics and eight World Championships, winning a pair of gold medals in each. She’s also worked as a rinkside reporter on TNT NHL broadcasts and as an intermission analyst on Sportsnet hockey broadcasts. Her dad Bill Mikkelson played in the NHL and AHL and her brother Brendan played 19 games for the Flames in 2010-11. Wills, Steinberg return QR Calgary 770, which took over the Flames’ radio rights from the now-defunct Sportnet The Fan 960, announced last week it’s bringing back veteran sports broadcaster Derek Wills to call play-by-play on and Pat Steinberg to host pre-and-post-game. Steinberg will also co-host a new show called Flames Now with Jock Wilson, which debuts Monday, before the Flames’ NextGen game at the Saddledome. Wills joined the Flames broadcast in 2014 following the retirement of legendary Peter Maher. Prior to joining Calgary, Wills called games for the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League for 13 seasons. The Flames’ first pre-season game is Sept. 20 against the Seattle Kraken at the Saddledome.
