With the 113th Grey Cup Festival less than six weeks away in Calgary, organizers are issuing a challenge to Rider Nation. Stampeders president Jay NcNeil wants Saskatchewan Roughrider fans to “paint Calgary green” the second week of November. “The thing that makes Grey Cup so special and incredible is the fact rivalries are put to the side and fans from across the country come to Calgary or come to wherever the [game] is to celebrate together,” he told CTV News. “So we’re issuing a challenge to Rider Nation: come to Calgary, it’s going to be a great week and we want to see you there.” It is no secret when Saskatchewan plays in Calgary, the seats at McMahon Stadium are littered with Green and White. Festival organizers want to see that same takeover at the Grey Cup Festival and wonder; can they outnumber Stamps fans or Blue Bomber fans? And can they turn Calgary green for an entire week? “It’s certainly due to the proximity,” added McNeil. “And then half of Calgary’s got Saskatchewan roots, so it just makes it extra special. We’re excited to host the country.” This year’s festival has all the fan favourites, including team rooms, legend luncheon, cheer extravaganza and much more. For the first time, the festival will host a girls-in-sport summit. In classic Calgary fashion, there is also a country flavour. A rodeo will headline the week featuring bull riding, saddle bronc, bareback, bull fighting and wild pony racing. “Even if you’ve never been to a football game before and this is your first football event, there’s going to be something for you,” McNeil said. The 2026 Grey Cup Festival takes over Stampede Park in Calgary’s Culture and Entertainment District from Nov. 11–14, leading into the 113th Grey Cup at McMahon Stadium on Nov. 15.
