One day after the province paused its 13-cent gas tax, gas prices jumped more than 30 cents at several Calgary stations, to $1.75. Thursday, gas across the city was hovering at $1.39.9 at a variety of stations, prompting gas price watchers in the city to ask what’s going on. Service Alberta said in an email to CTV News that it expects savings to be passed on to consumers after suspending the provincial gas tax, adding that if a gas station is suspected of price gouging, Albertans can report it to the province’s consumer investigations unit. Consequences include prosecution through the courts, with fines of up to $300,000 or two years in jail. Saturday morning, prices ranged from $1.36 to $1.75 in various quadrants across the city.
