Man burned in explosion, fire at Calgary hotel

Emergency crews respond to an explosion and fire at the Emerald Hotel and Suites on Sunridge Boulevard on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025.

The Calgary Fire Department says one man was rushed to hospital on Sunday after suffering burns in a small explosion and fire.

It happened on the fifth floor of the Emerald Hotel and Suites on Sunridge Boulevard just after 8 p.m.  

The fire department says the victim suffered third-degree burns to 50 per cent of his body.

Damage was limited to the room where the explosion occurred.

Officials say a dog was also injured, and was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic.
