Lineups form outside some Calgary gas stations as prices drop

Gas prices dropped as low as 1.43 a litre at select stations across Calgary Wednesday, causing lineups that stretched out onto the street.

Calgarians are taking advantage of an unexpectedly steep drop at the pumps at some gas stations.

People were lining up off the street at a Tempo station in the northeast early Wednesday, where gas dropped to $1.43 a litre.

It’s the lowest prices seen in a while in the city, and a few other stations were dropping their pump price below $1.60 as well.

Some drivers who got in line for Tempo said they waited about 15 minutes to fill up.

“Yeah it’s like 35 to 36 cents difference in the highest and lowest price available in Calgary,” said one man.

“This is amazing,” said a second happy gas pumper. “This has been a crazy moment since I’ve been in Calgary, I’ve never seen the stations so occupied.

“This is phenomenal.”

The price drop is the latest change in what has been a rollercoaster month at the pumps, since the start of the war on Iran.

At one point, gas was nearly $1.83 a litre.
