The City of Lethbridge launched the second year of its environmental incentive program on Wednesday. The initiative offers Lethbridge water utility customers 50 per cent rebates or up to $100 each for up to two low-flow toilets and two rain barrels per household, all in an effort to encourage more water conservation across the Lethbridge area amid ongoing drought risks. The first year saw more than 360 rain barrel rebates approved and more than 140 for low-flow toilets. “Just to put that in perspective, 150 low-flow toilets that are replacing some water-intensive toilets can save approximately 2,000,000 litres of water per year,” said Mark Svenson, City of Lethbridge environmental manager. Applications for the environmental incentive program are open on the City of Lethbridge website through to the end of the year or until funds are exhausted.
