The Lethbridge Regional Water Services Commission is celebrating 25 years of providing access to potable water for local residents and businesses across Lethbridge County and Coaldale. The non-profit organization was established in 2000 when a new pipeline from Lethbridge to McCain Foods and the town of Coaldale went into operation. The excess capacity was made available to county residents in 2001 and 2002 when more than 200 more water units were constructed and installed. Since then, the association has been able to meet growing demand, purchasing additional water licences and bringing the total capacity to more than 900 units. “We’re very proud of the fact that it’s been 25 years and the commission is what I would call a shining example of regional collaboration,” said John Kuerbis, Lethbridge County deputy reeve. “It’s been functioning very, very well.” The Lethbridge water treatment plant, which supplies water to the association, now serves more than 133,000 residents across 10 different municipalities.
