The Lethbridge Police Service has a new batch of graduates ready to hit the streets, but these aren’t your usual LPS grads—they’re K9s. Police dogs Bobbie and Bak, both two years old, went through a 20-week training course. The pair will work and live with their handlers. They’ll assist police with finding suspects, evidence and more. K9 units have become an essential part of how the local force operates. “They go through several different profiles—everything from building searching, compound searching, tracking, evidence, obedience, agility and some specialized training that includes laser, some firearms,” said K9 unit trainer Braylon Hyggen. “They’re here, graduating and ready to start their careers.” Monday was also the retirement ceremony for six-year-old Aron. He’ll spend his retirement with Const. Steve Zwartbol, who he’s spent the past four years working with.
