Skylar Ochuschayoo, 31, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of a Regina man who was shot and killed in 2024. Ochuschayoo was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 25 year-old Warren Crane from Regina in July 2024. He was also charged with possessing a firearm or ammunition contrary to his prohibition order. Crane’s death marked the city’s 3rd homicide of that year. On Monday at Court of King’s Bench in Regina, Ochuschayoo did not plead guilty to first-degree murder, but rather entered a guilty plea to the lesser offence of manslaughter. The plea was a joint submission made by the Crown and the defence. The Crown prosecutor read various impact statements from Crane’s family members in court. On June 29, 2024, Regina Police Service (RPS) and paramedics were dispatched to the 1900 block of McIntyre Street just after 10:15 p.m. for a report of a man who was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Although police and EMS attempted life-saving measures, Crane was declared dead at the scene. The three suspects in Crane’s killing fled the scene, according to police. As a result, a death investigation began immediately which led to a Canada-wide-warrant being issued for Ochuschayoo and the two other suspects – including Ochuschayoo’s girlfriend at the time. Police found Ochuschayoo on July 10, 2024. More details to come … With files from David Prisciak
