Lethbridge County has released results from a recent survey about future development. Results from the “What We Heard” report show residents have a desire to protect agricultural land and the rural character of the county. Those who filled out the survey said infrastructure should keep up with growth, with water access as a current concern, along with allowing more flexible property use such as home-based businesses and hobby farms. The feedback will help shape the county’s residential strategy going forward. “The engagement was critical to open that dialogue with everyone,” said Kaylyn Franklin, Lethbridge County planning and development manager. “We got over 200 survey responses, which was fantastic to hear from a great breadth of residents within the county, whether it be farms, acreages, living in hamlets. “Everybody has a very different lifestyle in the county, and hearing from them is really going to inform how we develop policy going forward.” Administration will use the feedback alongside technical analysis to develop policy recommendations, which will be presented to council later this year.
