A Calgary-based animal rescue agency is packed with dozens of guinea pigs after a large intake of the animals on the weekend. The Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) brought in 33 guinea pigs from a sanctuary in northern Alberta on Sept. 20. Officials say that the organization was inundated with the pigs by owners in the area, so AARCS stepped in to help. Now, AARCS is looking for foster families and donations to help take care of the new residents. “AARCS is pleased to have been able to provide support to a sanctuary in need and bring in our largest intake of guinea pigs to date,” said Amy Corpe, AARCS’ director of animal health in a Tuesday news release. “These animals are just as deserving of loving families as the cats and dogs we rescue, and we’re eager to find them forever homes where they can thrive.” AARCS will be covering all the expenses, food, supplies and veterinary care for the animals until they find a permanent home. In addition to eager adopters, AARCS is also looking for supplies such as fresh vegetables, vitamin C cookies, hay and pellet food. Donations can be dropped off at AARCS Safe Haven, located at 5060-74 Ave. S.E. in Calgary. Funds can be contributed online.
