Harvey the Hound nominated for 2025 Mascot Hall of Fame class

The Calgary Flames’ furry mascot, Harvey the Hound, is on the ballot as a nominee for the 2025 Mascot Hall of Fame class.

The annual vote, put on by the Mascot Hall of Fame, aims to recognize and honour the best mascot characters and programs.

Harvey has been the Flames’ mascot since 1983. He celebrated his 40th anniversary as the team’s mascot two seasons ago. He was also the NHL’s first mascot.

He is the only Canadian mascot on the ballot this year and one of two NHL mascots nominated, along with the San Jose Sharks’ S.J. Sharkie.

“Over the years, Harvey has delighted Flames fans and kids of all ages with his antics and continues to be one of the most recognizable mascots in all of the professional sports,” Harvey’s bio reads.

There are 28 mascots eligible for the vote this year, including the Seattle Seahawks’ Blitz, the University of Florida’s Albert and the New York Mets’ Mrs. Met.

The hall of fame says usually between two and four mascots are inducted each year.

All mascots in major and minor sports leagues for baseball, basketball, football, hockey and soccer, along with NCAA Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, are eligible to be nominated and must have been active as their team’s mascot for the previous 10 years.

The executive committee of the Mascot Hall of Fame and members of the general public can vote on the class.

The vote will open on Sunday, May 11, at 12:01 a.m. EDT (10:01 p.m. MDT, Saturday, May 10) and close at midnight EDT on Saturday, May 24 (10 p.m. MDT, Friday, May 23).

The hall of fame class will be announced in June 2025.

Only two other NHL mascots have been inducted into the hall of fame: the Montreal Canadiens’ Youppi! and the Chicago Blackhawks’ Tommy Hawk.
