A fire in the northwest Calgary community of Panorama Hills damaged two homes on Monday afternoon. It was reported around 2:45 p.m. in the 0-100 block of Panamount Heights N.W. “On arrival, our crews could see heavy smoke and fire. I believe the crew said they could see it from the fire station,” said Alex Kwan, Calgary Fire Department public information officer. “We declared a working fire as well as a second alarm because it had spread and there were significant flames on the exterior of the structure.” Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines and went inside the home to try to keep the fire from spreading beyond the attic. “The residents inside one of the homes did meet our crews outside. We were told there was nobody inside, but we always send our crews inside just to double-check that,” said Kwan. No people were injured. Two cats were rescued, but a third cat did not survive. Investigation into how and where the fire started will begin as soon as it’s safe. Members of the Calgary Police Service closed roads in the area for a time to ensure firefighters had room to work.
