A man who died in a drowning incident southeast of Calgary over the weekend has been identified as a 35-year-old tourist from Mexico. Diego Armando Mata Mendoza died after he jumped from a cliff into the water below near De Winton, a town just south of Calgary, on Aug. 1. Witnesses say he did not resurface and emergency crews found his body a short time later. Friends of Mendoza confirmed his identity to CTV News, and said he was in Calgary to visit family. He is survived by his wife and two young children. Mendoza’s family has organized a GoFundMe to help cover repatriation costs to bring his body back to Mexico.
