Cyclist killed in southwest Calgary crash with dump truck

Calgary police say a cyclist was killed on Friday after being hit by a dump truck.

The collision happened in the intersection of 26 Avenue and 32 Street S.W. at around 10:15 a.m.

Police say the dump truck was travelling west on 26 Avenue parallel with the cyclist, who was in a bike lane. The truck hit the cyclist as it turned right onto northbound 32 Street S.W.

“The cyclist, unfortunately, ended up underneath the loaded trailer,” said Acting Sgt. Dan Jordens.

The vicitim, a man in his 60s, was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition where he succumbed to his injuries.

Neither impairment nor speed are considered factors in the crash.

Officers are in the process of reviewing CCTV footage from the area.

“Our investigation will lead us to whether or not someone is at fault,” Jordens said.
