Conservatives from across the country are in Calgary this weekend for a national party convention. Delegates will gather for three days of closed-door meetings, policy debates, and votes that will help define the party’s priorities. It follows a record-breaking fundraising year, in 2025 the party received 327,105 donations, totaling $47,792,248. But it wasn’t all great in 2025. The party lost the federal election after holding a lead in the polls. Because of that loss, leader Pierre Poilievre will face a leadership review on Friday. He is also scheduled to deliver his keynote address the same day. Party leaders are expected to frame this convention as a reset, focused on rebuilding momentum and sharpening their message. “It will be an opportunity for the party and for Poilievre’s team to engineer an issue on the floor, or a set of issues on the floor that they’re interested in,” said Ian Brodie, University of Calgary political scientist and former chief of staff to Prime Minister Stephen Harper from 2006 to 2008. “That’ll be an indication of what they’re investing their time and effort in in the run up to a potential 2026 election.” A full event schedule can be found here. https://cpc26.ca/.
