The Zoo Manager for the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo is leaving after over six years on the job. In a social media post, the Saskatoon Zoo Foundation thanked Jeff Mitchell for his work and announced he’s embarking on a new adventure. Mitchell joined the Saskatoon Zoo in 2020, replacing Tim Sinclair. In the post, the Zoo Foundation says under Mitchell’s leadership it was able to invest more than $3 million dollars into new projects, including the popular Prairie Butterfly House, the award-winning Prairie Dog Exhibit, the Affinity Learning Centre, an accessible pier and a new electric train, to name a few. “These accomplishments are a testament to Jeff’s vision, passion, dedication and knowledge, and to the tremendous difference one person can make when they truly believe in the future of the zoo,” the post said. The Zoo Foundation says Mitchell’s impact will be felt for years to come, and he’ll be missed personally and professionally. There’s no word on who will replace Mitchell, but the position is currently being advertised on the City of Saskatoon’s career page.
